Maureen Pollard is passionate that all children can achieve success in reading, spelling and writing. It is for this reason she has created Little Learners Love Literacy®, a multi-sensory program that works. Children love it and teachers are very excited about the outcomes their students are achieving. Little Learners Love Literacy was launched in 2011. It focuses on 'phonemic awareness and alphabet knowledge' giving children the skills they need to be a reader and learner.
Getting children off to a good start in literacy is important!
Did you know that 25% of students going into Year 7 are not able to read fluently, which in practical terms, means they have little chance of accessing their curriculum? It is too late by Year 7 - let's change this statistic now! Let's build a strong literacy foundation in the first year of school.
Maureen will be discussing this issue in her Seminars and giving a framework for teaching reading, spelling and writing based around the 'Five big areas of literacy'.
Milo the monkey wants to celebrate his birthday with his friends. However, Milo feels miserable because Harry the hippopotamus is too busy hiking up the hill to his house, Kylie the koala is busy practising her karate kicks and Felix the frog is flipping and flopping with four fat fish. Milo's friends are busy preparing for his surprise birthday party. What fun!
It is so easy introduce letters and sounds to young children with Milo's Birthday Surprise. Milo and his friends are the core of the Little Learners Love Literacy program. The Teacher Resource books is full of teaching ideas and strategies - Chitter Chatter Chant, art and craft, Super Spelling etc.
Spelling seems to get less attention than reading when educators discuss literacy. Spelling and reading are complementary skills and both need to be taught with the same passion. In some ways spelling is harder to teach as the alphabetic principle is very complex.
Wendy Moore from Perth WA emailed me her thoughts:
I'm a teacher specializing in supporting students with literacy and language difficulties. A colleague brought both SoundCheck books along to a networking meeting many years ago. I was smitten when I first saw them and bought them immediately. I used them with great success. SoundCheck is the only photocopied proforma that I use .... I'm very fussy about what I use with students, but I can't talk these resources up enough. I'm not normally a gusher but they are really fantastic. I can't thank you enough for creating such an invaluable resource.
Thank you Wendy for your feedback.
