Focus on Phonics, Phonological Awareness and Fluency

Maureen Pollard and Helen Kirkland have been invited to share their expertise as part of the professional learning team at the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER) on the following dates:

  • 21 February
  • 29 April
  • 1 September
  • 14 October

These sessions will be held at ACER, 19 Prospect Hill Rd, Camberwell from 9.30 – 3.30.

Helen and Maureen will

  • examine the latest literacy research
  • discuss a range of phonics programs
  • hands-on learning to teach phonics
  • practical activities for developing phonological awareness
  • assessment suggestions

Phonics teaching needs to be high energy, focused and interactive. The teacher is the most important part of literacy teaching and needs to understand how to use programs effectively for the best literacy outcomes.
